Well, gone are the days when Jersey might have been regarded in the same way as, for example, a sleepy English seaside town; dead in the winter and only coming alive in the summer. Today, Jersey with it’s population of 90,000 is a cosmopolitan finance centre with the highest credentials, that has managed to retain it’s unique character and areas of outstanding beauty. St Helier is a bustling centre, regardless of the time of year, enjoying excellent shopping and award winning restaurants (the island boasts 2 Michelin Star holders). There are excellent marinas and St Malo on the french coast is only an hour away by car ferry. There are numerous daily flights to the UK and regular direct links to Paris and Geneva, as well as a fast car ferry to Poole and Weymouth bringing you to your destination in around 4 hours. About Tax & The High Value Resident The island authorities expect incoming wealthy residents to provide in the region of £100,000 income tax to the island’s coffers every year for a 10 year period and we highly recommend that you consult with a locally based tax expert to ensure that your affairs have been put in suitable order before being presented to the island authorities. As part of the application process consideration will be given to the total net worth of the applicant, in order to be satisfied that the applicant has sufficient wealth to generate the future tax revenues. With effect from the 1st January 2005, individuals granted a 1(1)K licence are taxed on Jersey source income at 20%. The first £1,000,000 of non-Jersey source income is also taxed at 20%, but the next £500,000 is taxed at 10% and non-Jersey source income above the £1,500,000 level is taxed at 1%. There are currently no other wealth taxes such as capital gains or inheritance tax. The next step?
